Our children are growing up in an ever-changing world where the reliance on technology is becoming more prevalent. We aim to inspire and equip them with the necessary skills to question, prepare, analyse and safely navigate computing ready for their technological futures.
At The Hyde, we encourage curiosity, exploration and resilience by providing children with regular opportunities to practise, analyse and apply their computational knowledge and skills as they progress through the school and beyond. We use Google for Education across the school with both staff and pupils. Google applications form the core platform for learning, and we continually explore new digital tools and platforms that can further enhance teaching and learning. Teachers are committed to becoming confident and competent users of technology themselves, enabling them to engage, inspire and support children in using technology creatively and purposefully. Our child-led Digital Leader team plays a key role in leading Computing alongside teachers. They offer peer-to-peer support through computing lessons and act as positive role models for both pupils and staff. So skilled are our Digital Leaders that they often assist with the teaching of computing lessons, while also providing a valuable channel for capturing pupil voice.
At The Hyde, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. To support delivery, we use the NCCE (National Centre for Computing Education) scheme of work. This scheme is structured around four key strands: computing systems and networks, creating media, programming, and data and information, with the golden thread of online safety running throughout. This approach ensures that computing is safe, purposeful and meaningful, while helping children understand how it connects to the wider world and prepares them for a future in which technology will play an increasingly significant role in society. The Computing Team supports staff across the school by providing regular opportunities for continued professional development, ensuring that the quality of teaching and learning remains consistent, relevant and high quality for both our children and the wider community. We also offer frequent opportunities for families and the wider community to take part in supportive workshops and training sessions focused on remote learning platforms, the computing curriculum and online safety. Our approach is informed by both our community and our children, ensuring that online safety guidance and support are relevant, responsive and effective.
