Science

Vision

Did you know that science affects every aspect of our daily lives? At The Hyde, we teach our children to be curious, think critically, and work analytically in chemistry, biology, and physics so that their knowledge and scientific understanding positively impact both themselves and the world.

Science at The Hyde

Science is made accessible to all pupils through a mix of practical work, first hand experiences, special events, and trips designed to inspire and engage learners. Teaching key skills, such as making observations, making predictions, and evaluating first hand observations, is equally important as teaching knowledge and understanding. Our Science curriculum sparks curiosity from the early years to the end of Year 6 by offering children opportunities to explore the world and fostering a sense of wonder in scientific learning.

How we deliver the curriculum

We follow the Early Years and National Curriculums for Science, and our Science curriculum also links with other areas of a broad and balanced school curriculum. Each year group follows a curriculum map outlining what will be taught during the year. Our priority is to teach both the scientific vocabulary and knowledge linked to topics, as well as the skills needed to work scientifically and apply these skills across all science topics. Children are encouraged to develop analytical and critical thinking in science, with a focus on building independence and problem-solving skills. Our Progression documents show how knowledge and scientific skills are built upon throughout the children’s time at school.
